Saratoga Spa Cyclocross to host New York State Championships
State titles to be awarded in 13 categories at fourth-annual event
SARATOGA SPRINGS–Promoters of the Saratoga Spa Cyclocross are proud to host the 2012 New York State Cyclocross Championships, to be held Oct. 21 at the historic Saratoga Race Course, off ofHenning Road. The most scenic ‘cross venue in the state affords spectators sweeping views of racing action from our expo area, while constant elevation changes and deep sand pits, and the Stan’s NoTubes barriers challenge racers.
In addition to races throughout the day, Spa:CX features exhibitors from the cycling industry, as well as local businesses. Kids will enjoy a bouncy slide and a safe riding area separate from the main race course, but close enough for parents to watch the races while supervising young riders. Local food vendors will be on hand to keep racers and spectators fed throughout the day.
Races will begin at 9:15 a.m. with juniors in four age and gender groups, as well as beginner men and women. Masters racers older than 35 will follow at 10 a.m., with intermediate racers competing at 11 a.m.
A noontime break will see kids younger than 10 race on the kids’ course in the Shimano youth race. Adults interested in trying a non-sanctioned, one-lap race on the full course can compete in the Elevate Cycles Run What You Brung at noon, attempting to complete a lap of the course on any bike. Costumes are encouraged, and make the most of your lap and try to win the crowd’s hearts! Both events are free and open to the non-racing public.
Sanctioned racing resumes at 12:45 p.m. with the elite women and singlespeed categories, followed by the elite men closing out the day at 1:45 p.m.
Spa:CX is part of the NYCROSS.com series (presented by VOmax), and the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference series. In addition to racing for state titles, racers will have the chance to win points either or both series.
We are proud to raise funds for two charities with strong connections to Saratoga Springs. Team Billy seeks to find a cure to pediatric brain cancer, and holds a ride/walk each May. The Backstretch Employee Service Team is dedicated to serving the needs of barn area workers at New YorkState’s thoroughbred tracks.
